Juice Was A Great Addition To My Diet

organic-grapefruitHealth food advocates along with fanatics of liquid concur that a juicer is a good addition to any kitchen. Juicers enable you to make fresh-squeezed lemon juice (or natural juice, carrot juice, apple juice, or any newly pressed juice) in just a few minutes. Clean juice also includes nutrients and enzymes which the canned or bottled juice has lost through oxidation, so you have more health benefits by consuming freshly pressed juices.

There are a number of different alternatives once you are preparing to purchase a juicer. For example, a citrus juicer is supposed to be used for citrus fruits. There’s also a certain type of juicer named a affordable masticating juicer.

A masticating juicer, such as for instance the Omega J8005 masticating juicer, is an electric piece of equipment that removes juice from fruits and vegetables, running them very carefully. The most striking feature of a masticating juicer is that it slowly crushes the fruit or vegetables, and then presses the juice from the pulp. Generally, a masticating juicer is known as excellent for juicing difficult, fibrous foods and to extract the juice from most types of fruits or vegetables. A masticating juicer makes use of activity that’s slower than the typical high-speed devices like that of a centrifugal juicer such as for instance Waring Health Juice Extractors. This sort of juicer is ideal for wheat grass or any kind of green leafy vegetables such as cabbage and herbs, also for herbs such as parsley and basil. read more »

Citrus Juciers Can Be Tricky

I married my beautiful wife last year on April 4th. We ended up receiving quite a few Bed Bath and Beyond gift cards and one item in particular that I purchased was a juicer. There were two options, one a much larger and costing around $80, and a smaller one that was around $30.

My Wife’s Juicer Opinion Matters More Than Mine

My wife didn’t want me to spend so much on it so I bought the cheaper of the two. It’s a citrus juicer. It’s pretty much one step up from a hand juicer where you turn half of a citrus fruit over it while applying pressure. The difference is this one turns itself and I just apply the pressure. I bought 40 lbs of lemons that summer from a co-op for $.50 a pound. By the time I actually got around to juicing them about 1/4th had gone bad but I juiced the rest.

Not The Best Idea

It took me several hours to juice them. I had to cut each in half and then press it down onto the juicer hard enough to get the juice out but no so hard that it would stall. It took a surprising amount of effort to apply the correct pressure. I also had to keep an eye on the container that was being filled with the juice to make sure that it didn’t overflow.

Every so often I cleaned the top part of the machine because it was getting plugged from all the pulp. I poured it into ice cube trays and froze them before putting them back into zip lock bags. Over the last year I have used the lemon cubes to make lemonade and frozen lemon desserts in our blender. Overall it was worth it but since then I’ve just put the fruits straight into the blender sot hat I get the extra nutrition from the parts that would typically be separated from the juice when using a juicer.
